Design Thinking Process
Empathy:
Understanding Cultural Significance: Empathy was demonstrated by immersing myself in the cultural significance of each neighborhood in NYC. I considered the unique experiences, stories, and traditions that define these communities.
Putting myself in the Consumer's Shoes: I imagined the perspectives of the target audience, envisioning what would resonate with individuals who appreciate cultural diversity and unique flavors.
2. Research:
Neighborhood Research: Extensive research was conducted on each neighborhood's history, demographics, and cultural elements. This involved studying ethnographic data, and historical records, and engaging with cultural experts.
Color and Symbolism Research: Informed decisions were made based on research into color symbolism and visual elements associated with each neighborhood's cultural identity. For instance, they understand the colors, symbols, and patterns significant to Little Italy versus Harlem.
3. Ideation:
Brainstorming Cultural Symbols: Empathy and research were crucial in generating ideas. The sketches were influenced by brainstorming sessions focusing on cultural symbols, landmarks, and elements unique to each neighborhood.
Considering Audience Preferences: Empathy guided the ideation process by considering what visual elements would resonate with the diverse and culturally aware audience, ensuring that the sketches weren't just visually appealing but also emotionally impactful.
4. Prototype and Test:
Feedback Loops: After creating initial sketches, I sought feedback from peers, and potentially the target audience. This iterative process allowed you to gauge emotional responses and refine the sketches based on real-world perspectives.
